A note on the Etched Design...

Every design is one-of a kind, because of the acid etching process -- it is entirely hand done.  What I do is paint the spoon with a resist material, and then soak it in a bath of water and dissolved Ferric Nitrate*, an acid composed of Ferric Hydroxide (a weak base) and Nitric Acid (a strong acid).  This eats away at the exposed silver, and leaves intact the silver where where the resist covers it.  Neat, huh?

*I'm too chicken to use straight-up nitric acid, both for my own sake and for the sakes of those who may enter my studio.  Nitric acid is the traditional material used, but much more aggressive and certainly much more dangerous!  Bock-bock!
